One of the many things that I have learnt while building my various blogs and web sites is just how important submitting your blog or web site to web directories really is.
First of all it is an excellent way to gain a lot of extra traffic as these web directories receive a lot of hits from people wishing to discover new and exciting web sites to visit about almost any subject under the sun.
It can be a bit boring and tedious if you have to enter your web site or blog into lots of them in one sitting so it is a very good idea to maybe pick around ten of the best ones and enter your site information into them first before tackling the smaller ones.
What I used to do, which I found helpful, was pick ten to do per day, that way it does not sound like you are doing too many a day and you will find that you clear 70 of them a week at least.
Obviously there are lots of free web directory listings that do not charge to add your site to them but the main problem with these is that they do not offer any sort of moderation and don’t stop the Spam sites from clogging up the directory.
You could avoid this by joining the directories that charge a fee but then I doubt you want to pay to list your site. But on the plus side there will not be any Spam sites so your site will become noticed a lot more.
What I think is far more important than that though is joining a SEO friendly web directory. These are directories that will help you gain a better ranking in Google and other search engines. One of the biggest directories for this would be DMOZ.
